8/8/2003 - VIR Technologies, Inc. Develops Chemistry Independent Battery Management Software

Summary: Intuitive Power Management (IPM) TM solutions recognize batteries as chemical components in an electrical design, and optimize system level power management as the battery powered products are used.

VIR Technologies, Inc. (VIR) today announces they have developed chemistry independent battery management methods that simplify designs of wireless, handheld, mobile, and battery powered electronics.  These Intuitive Power Management (IPM) TM solutions extend battery life by increasing precision/accuracy in measuring battery conditions and optimizing system power states to consume less power, all relative to the user’s habits and the “state-of-energy” of the battery.

The insatiable demand for battery powered products including wireless phones, notebook PCs, digital cameras, MP3 players and PDA’s continues to highlight that key demand of extended battery life.  The availability of IPM software will enable designers to beat time-to-market expectations and reduce development costs of contemporary battery powered designs.

With IPM solutions, battery powered products can now rely on an extended and efficient supply of energy from the power source.  As the device is used and different power sources are attached to the device, IPM software and drivers can constantly update the system power management settings to make optimum use of available power.  This allows OEMs to offer cost reduced, yet performance enhanced products for the world markets.

These IPM solutions acknowledge differences in battery chemistry, determine the “state-of-energy” of the battery or power source, and provide feedback to the system so that the system can minimize power consumption.  VIR software engineers have developed code that is easily portable to wireless phones, notebook PCs, PDA’s, battery packs, or the wireless networks they use.   System designers can implement the complete IPM code in only 64 bytes of RAM, 1K bytes ROM and uses less than 0.002% of a processors available CPU cycles in a typical wireless phone design.  Source code licensing, for the entire suite of IPM technology source code, is available for $249.00 as a restricted lifetime license.  Development kits are also available.
